    In today’s interconnected world, systems change must begin with understanding people’s lived realities. During Abla'a time as a graduate student at Brandeis University, she worked with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) to help translate Ghana’s Disability Act into practice from 2007-2008. Guided by Professor Stephen Gulley’s mentorship, she focused on adapting accessible design standards and developing a framework for disability audits that could be applied nationwide.

    In Ontario, the housing system continues to face pressure as communities work to balance the need for affordable homes with the demand for emergency and transitional housing. Abla's leadership in a Conversion to Non-Residential Use project set a legal precedent at the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board, recognized as a best practice in tenancy transitions and policy alignment.
